The spire over the main facade was 113 metres high and the tallest spire in the city, and the church was correspondingly rich in its interior fittings. After it was destroyed in the war, the initial proposal was for a glass church to be built inside the ruin, but this plan was soon dropped. The 68 metre high ruined tower was preserved and used as an exhibition room, and it was surrounded by a four-part new building ensemble, a steel structure with a flat roof. |
